The Chinese New year began on Monday, January 23rd, and is a cause for celebration in Chinese communities all over the world. 2012 is the year of the dragon. Contrary to its threatening depiction in Western culture, in Eastern culture, the dragon symbolizes good fortune and intense power, and those born in the year of the dragon are said to be strong and wise.
